Presentation

Shortness of breath. O/E crackles in the right lung base.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

A well-defined, radiolucent cavity in the right medial lung with air-fluid levels and post-surgical clips in the superior mediastinum.

No cardiomegaly.

No pleural effusions.

Case Discussion

This is a case of Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy with a radiograph showing evidence of the gastric conduit.

Although it has characteristic appearances, no clinical information about this procedure can lead a radiologist to call it potentially a lung cavity or achalasia.
