Sesamoid fracture is important to be differentiated from bipartite sesamoid bone. Fracture surfaces are irregular and can fit together, unlike bipartite sesamoid which appears well-corticated structure with smooth borders. The hallucal sesamoids are more susceptible to trauma and fracture, with the medial sesamoid fractured more frequently encountered of the foot sesamoid bones ¹.
