Presentation

Trauma to the left foot with suspected foreign body

Patient Data

Age: 8 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is a radiopaque foreign body seen lateral to the middle and distal phalanges of left fourth toe with no definite underlying fractures seen.

Partial fragmentation and flattening are seen involving the upper half of the left navicular bone.

Case Discussion

Köhler disease represents osteonecrosis (avascular necrosis) of the navicular bone in a child.

The disease may be asymptomatic or presents with mid-foot pain.
