Likely minimally displaced intra-articular fracture of the 5th proximal phalanx base and proximal metaphysis.

Case Discussion

Fractures should be described according to the bone(s) involved, the location within the bone, if intra-articular or displaced, and if fragmented/comminuted.  Some fractures will have eponymous names, such as a fracture of the 5th metacarpal neck: a Boxers fracture. Whilst many clinicians will use such names in referrals and requests, the radiology report should ideally include a description of the fracture to avoid miscommunication.
