What are the origin and insertion of the FCR?
Origin: medial epicondyle at the common flexor tendon. Insertion: Base of the second metacarpal (most commonly the bulk of the tendon inserts here), also the third metacarpal and trapezial tubercle.
Is the flexor carpi radialis within the carpal tunnel?
No. It has its own tunnel with boundaries described in a question below.
What are the boundaries of the FCR tunnel?
Radial: body of the trapezium. Palmar: trapezial crest. Dorsal: trapezial ridge. Ulnar: retinacular septum from transverse carpal ligament (separates FCR from carpal tunnel).
What is the initial treatment for FCR tunnel syndrome?
Conservative management with immobilization and NSAIDS. Local anesthetic and steroid injection along FCR sheath can be diagnostic and therapeutic. Surgical release may be necessary.
FCR tunnel syndrome presents with volar wrist pain (red region). Imaging findings are depicted.
