Endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the endometrium

Case contributed by Bahman Rasuli
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Abnormal uterine bleeding.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Uterus shows heterogeneous signal intensity measuring about 54*60*88 mm

There is a 5.2 * 5.6 * 6.4 cm (Vol – 92 cc) sized mass lesion (T1 low and T2 hyperintense) with water restriction distending the endometrial cavity

Furthermore, it appears to invade more than 50 percent of the myometrium, however, the outer band of the myometrium is continuous.

No extension into the cervix or beyond the uterus

No bladder / rectal involvement

No focal lesions and suspicious lymphadenopathy

No free fluid

Both ovaries show atrophic changes.

Case Discussion

Regarding the imaging findings, endometrioid adenocarcinoma stage Ib (invasion equal to or more than half of the myometrium) according to the FIGO staging system should be considered.
