Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Oncological follow-up. Incidental finding.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
ct

An about 23 mm solid, inhomogeneous nodule is visible in the right segment 10 of the lung. It contains popcorn-like calcifications and areas of fat density, thus being virtually pathognomonic for a benign pulmonary hamartoma.

Measurement ROI demonstrating focal fat content of the lesion (-21 HU).

Case Discussion

The heterogeneous density, popcorn-like calcifications (and stability on multiple follow-up exams) all favor a benign pulmonary hamartoma.
