Presentation

Twisting injury to the right knee

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Right knee

x-ray

There is an avulsion fracture of the margin of the lateral tibial plateau. A soft tissue density is noted in the suprapatellar recess suggestive of knee joint effusion.

The deep sulcus sign is positive, which again is highly suspicious for ACL avulsion injury.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates a Segond fracture of the right knee. Segond fracture is associated with ACL ligament injury in most of the cases, hence an MRI should be recommended as the next investigation.
