Unilateral Le Fort fracture - type 2

- transverse, minimally displaced fractures are seen through the base of the left pterygoid process and the lateral pterygoid plate
- comminuted, minimally displaced fractures through the anterior and posterior walls of the left maxillary sinus. the fracture through the anterior wall extends into the left infraorbital foramen, without herniation of the overlying inferior rectus muscle
- minimally displaced fracture of the left lateral orbital wall, abutting the lateral rectus muscle
- undisplaced fracture through the right side of the mandibular body
- comminuted fracture through the left mandibular angle, involving the left inferior alveolar canal.
Case Discussion
Fracture of the pterygoid plate with involvement of the inferior orbital wall classes this mid-facial fracture as a Le Fort Type 2.
