Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
Barium

The patient has a small hiatal hernia, filled with barium. As time goes forward, there is relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter with subsequent reflux of the gastric contents into the esophagus.

Case Discussion

This case is an example of gastro-esophageal reflux on cinefluoroscopy. Gastro-esophageal reflux is common; only when it becomes symptomatic is it termed "gastro-esophageal reflux disease."
