Tenosynovial giant cell tumor

Presentation

Index finger swelling of 6 months duration.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

MRI study shows a well-defined lobulated soft tissue mass lesion at the palmar aspect of the index finger at the level of proximal interphalangeal joint inseparable from the flexor tendon, which appears isointense to muscles on T1 and T2 weighted images moderate enhancement on the post-contrast study.

Annotated images highlight the findings, the red color for the flexor tendon and the yellow color for the tenosynovial giant cell tumor.

Case Discussion

Here is a case of peritendinous mass on the index finger most likely a tenosynovial giant cell tumor. The top two differential diagnoses are; fibroma of the tendon sheath and palmar fibromatosis.

To date, surgery has not been performed to confirm the diagnosis.
