The left atrial appendage (LAA) is a finger-like extension originating from the main body of the left atrium can be the main source of thrombi in patients with atrial fibrillation. The LAA has been divided into four shape types—cactus, chicken wing, wind sock, and cauliflower. The chicken wing is the most common subtype and is also associated with the least incidence of embolism in patients with LAA thrombus.
