Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

At the lower segment of the uterus, a round heterogeneous structure measuring 11 x 11 x 9 cm with central anechoic material located to the right of the cervix is pushing the cervix towards the left side. The appearance of the structure most likely represents a cystic degenerating fibroid.

Single live intrauterine fetus, GA 35 weeks and 1 day. Normal fetal growth and well-being study (images not included). Fetal presentation is cephalic but sitting higher in the lower segment of the uterus due to the presence of the large fibroid.

Case Discussion

Red degeneration is the most common form of degeneration of a fibroid in pregnancy. It may cause abdominal pain and should be suspected in a pregnant patient with known uterine fibroids.
