Case contributed by Ian Bickle
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Abdominal distension. Bowel obstruction?

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

No bowel obstruction.

Barium retained in colonic diverticulosis, largely in the descending and sigmoid colon.

Case Discussion

Retained barium is occasionally observed many years down the line on plain radiography or CT.

However, this is less common now, due to its much more limited use in contemporary radiology.

This cases illustrates pretty florid diverticulosis nicely.
