Hemorrhagic pancreatitis

The pancreas is edematous and there is peripancreatic stranding extending into the left pararenal space. There is a moderate amount of free fluid spread through the peritoneal cavity.
High-density fluid collection is seen in the lesser sac in keeping with a blood products.
The distal jejunal branch of the superior mesenteric artery is large and irregular suggestive of an eroded vessel, which could be the source of the bleeding.
Case Discussion
CT findings are consistent with hemorrhagic pancreatitis.
Hemorrhage can occur in patients with severe necrotizing pancreatitis or as a result of pancreatic pseudoaneurysm rupture -- a life-threatening emergency.
