For the evaluation of foreign body aspiration.
Patient Data
The trachea and bronchi appear clear from the inside with no evidence of radio-opaque foreign body, however ground glass opacities are seen involving the middle lobe and lingula.
Two aortic arches are taking origin from the ascending aorta.
The right arch is having a larger lumen mildly compressing the right aspect of the tracheal lumen.
The left arch with a smaller lumen passing the left aspect of the trachea.
Right subclavian artery and right common carotid artery are arising from the right aortic arch.
Left subclavian artery and left common carotid artery are arising from the left aortic arch.
Both arches combine posterior to the right aspect of the esophagus. The descending thoracic is in the right side.
Case Discussion
Features are of the double aortic arch. The patient was clinically dyspneic. The referring physician was suspecting foreign body aspiration to be confirmed by bronchoscopy.
