Presentation

Acute onset, the atraumatic origin of the right midfoot region medial side pain for the last two weeks.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years

ultrasound

There is a calcification in the tibialis posterior tendon near its insertion. The calcification is also present outside the tendon along with local soft-tissue edema and hypervascularity. The tendon is intact without tenosynovitis. The cine loop shows movements of calcium due to local pressure by the ultrasound probe.

Case Discussion

The case shows calcific tendinosis of the tibialis posterior along with extra-tendonous calcium leak causing local inflammation.

Calcific tendinosis is a self-limiting condition due to the deposition of calcium hydroxyapatite. The rotator cuff is the most common location for calcium deposition.
