- changes of dacryocystitis are present with a peripheral enhancing collection involving the medial aspect of the left orbit. There is no imaging evidence of post septal extension. There is significant adjacent stranding extending in the left periorbital region.
- complete opacification of the left frontal sinuses with projecting focuses from the frontal sinus to the lateral wall of the orbit presumably at a site of prior fracture.
- no underlying acute bony destruction is seen.
- prosthetic left globe in situ with evidence of old fractures of the left orbit.
Case Discussion
Most cases of dacryocystitis can be diagnosed clinically and are treated with antibiotics. Indications for imaging include exclusion of secondary orbital cellulitis or orbital abscess; both conditions being uncommon due to the orbital septum acting as a barrier preventing postseptal spread of infection 1.
