Choroid plexus papilloma

Presentation

Gross motor developmental delay and regression.

Patient Data

Age: 17 months
Gender: Female

Large frond like intraventricular mass centered within the trigone and body of the right lateral ventricle. The mass appears hypointense on T1 weighted imaging and hyperintense on T2 weighted imaging. Features of high tumor vascularity are present with dilated feeding choroidal arteries and deep draining vein. These findings are consistent with a choroid plexus papilloma. No intracranial or leptomeningeal metastases are evident.

The septum pellucidum is deviated to the left. Early dilatation of the left lateral, third and fourth ventricles is suggestive of associated hydrocephalus.

Case Discussion

Digital subtraction angiography was performed pre-operatively which confirmed the presence of feeding vessels. In this case, the feeding vessels were not amenable to pre-operative embolization. A craniotomy and resection of the intraventricular lesion was performed. Histological analysis of resected tissue confirmed a diagnosis of choroid plexus papilloma.

In the pediatric population, choroid plexus papillomas tend to most frequently occur in trigone of the lateral ventricles as seen in this case.
