Renal oncocytoma

Case contributed by Mohammad Taghi Niknejad
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Work up for flank pain.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
ct

A 30×28 mm partially exophytic hetero enhancing mass with central scar is noted at lower pole of right kidney.

In addition, several subcentimeter simple cortical cysts are seen at kidneys. A 5 mm stone is also noted at lower calyx of right kidney.

The prostate gland is enlarged.

Case Discussion

The patient underwent right renal mass resection and histopathologic evaluation confirms oncocytoma. Small tumors may enhance homogeneously, but usually enhancement is heterogeneous and the mass is larger. Central stellate non-enhancing scar is seen in approximately a third of cases particularly at large masses.
