Invasive ductal carcinoma - male breast

Presentation

A 65 year old male presents with a palpable right breast lump.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

Suspicious right breast mass and axillary lymphadenopathy.

Enhancing retroareolar right breast mass, with likely involvement of the nipple. No suggestion of involvement of the pectoralis muscles.

Multiple hyperenhancing cortically thickened right axillary lymph nodes, including that which was recently biopsied.

ultrasound

Ultrasound findings demonstrate a right-sided, retroareolar breast mass with punctate calcifications, irregular borders, and increased internal blood flow on color doppler images.

mammography

Right breast retroareolar mass with spiculated margins and pleomorphic calcifications. The remaining fibrogalndular tissue appears normal. BIRADS 5 highly suspicious for malignancy.  

Case Discussion

Male breast cancer is very rare. The vast majority of breast cancer is found in the female population. Most male breast cancer cases are histologically confirmed as invasive ductal carcinoma.
