Presentation
Lump on the medial aspect of the left knee, painful, pain on weight-bearing, nil knee swelling, pain on abduction extension. Exclude ligamentous/meniscal injury.
Patient Data
Large horizontal tear involving the posterior root attachment and posterior to middle medial meniscus with a parameniscal cyst extending into the medial meniscofemoral recess. Incidental meniscal flounce of the medial middle meniscal edge is noted.
Lateral meniscus is intact. No lateral parameniscal cyst.
Anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are intact. Medial collateral ligament and lateral collateral ligament complex are intact. No acute injury of the posterolateral corner.
Quadriceps and patellar tendons are intact.
Case Discussion
Parameniscal cysts are a secondary marker of meniscal tears, although the meniscal tear is easily visualized in this case.
