Presentation
Rectal bleeding. Upper GI endoscopy was normal. Sigmoidoscopy revealed altered blood but no bleeding source. The patient continued to bleed so CT abdominal angiogram was performed.
Patient Data
The unenhanced acquisition shows a blind-ending tubular structure in the right iliac fossa (Meckel's diverticulum). Note the absence of any hyperdense material in the diverticulum lumen.
The arterial post-contrast acquisition demonstrates early filling of the diverticulum with hypedense material (blood).
On the delayed post-contrast acquisition, the blood can be seen to have further filled the lumen of the diverticulum with some extension into the adjacent ileal loop.
Case Discussion
The patient underwent surgery and excision of a Meckel's diverticulum. This was confirmed on histological analysis.
The patient was discharged a few days later with uneventful post-operative recovery.
