Acro-osteolysis from end-stage renal failure

Presentation

Poor historian. Minor trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Radiocephalic AV fistula. Distal phalangeal resorption of multiple fingers in keeping with acro-osteolysis. Fifth DIP joint fixed flexion deformity.

Case Discussion

The patient had known end-stage renal failure and several years of regular haemodialysis (attended intermittently). A common cause of acro-osteolysis in hyperparathyroidism from chronic renal failure.
