Presentation
A 65-year-old man presented with abdominal pain and nausea/vomiting, two weeks after cholecystectomy.
Patient Data
Supine abdominal film shows dilated loops of small bowel with the "stack of coins" appearance, suggesting small bowel obstruction. On the erect abdominal film, multiple air-fluid levels are noted that suggest obstruction.
Multiple dilated loops of small bowel are noted. Colon is collapsed. The transitional zone is located at the distal ileum at which a soft tissue mass is located.
A hematoma is seen at the site of previous cholecystectomy. The presence of gas in the hematoma suggests superinfection.
Case Discussion
The patient underwent surgery. Unfortunately he did not survive.
