History of left testicular pain for last 2 hours, no trauma, no dysuria
Patient Data
Normal testes bilaterally.
There is a rounded soft tissue structure related to the upper pole of the left testis, with heterogeneous hypoechoic echotexture, no internal vascularity and peripheral vascularity on color Doppler scan, in keeping with torsion of left Morgagni appendix.
Case Discussion
Torsion of the appendix testis (torsion of the hydatid of Morgagni) is the most common cause of an acute painful hemiscrotum in a child. The appendix testis is located at the upper pole of the testis (between the testis and the head of the epididymis).
An ultrasound is helpful in confirming the diagnosis.
Torsion of the appendix testis was confirmed intra-operatively.
