Presentation
The patient slipped and fell at home. She presents with pain and limited range of motion of the right elbow.
Patient Data
The lateral radiograph confirms an avulsion fracture injury of the right olecranon. There is a displaced and distracted bone fragment, with posterior soft tissue swelling.
Post-operative imaging confirms a cortical buttress plate with multiple, fully threaded, cannulated, bicortical screws fixating the left olecranon. There is normal post-traumatic and post-surgical soft tissue swelling and effusion.
Case Discussion
Triceps brachii tendon avulsion injuries are extremely rare. Patients report falling on an outstretched hand (FOOSH), direct blunt trauma or injury during lifting a heavy object. These injuries are often surgically treated.
