Abdominal aortic aneurysm (incidental finding on renal scintigraphy)
Presentation
Left hydronephrosis.
Patient Data
Renal scintigraphy

On the flow phase of the renogram, there is increased activity in an enlarged aorta, suggestive of an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
Incidentally, the renogram demonstrates differentially increased activity in the left kidney that clears after the administration of Lasix, compatible with a dilated, nonobstructed kidney.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm is demonstrated.
Case Discussion
One should always look for incidental findings on nuclear medicine studies.
In this renogram for a dilated left kidney, there is abnormally increased activity in an enlarged aorta. This abnormal finding was subsequently shown on CT to represent an anueysmal aorta.
