Abscess in foot

Presentation

C/o pain in sole of forefoot over 4th MTP joint. No trauma. Referred fro radiograph and US ( to look for collection ).

Patient Data

Age: 25 yrs
Gender: Male
X-ray
No bony abnormality.
Ultrasound

 An irregular hypoechoic area is noted in subcutaneous plane ( approximate Size - 15 x 10 x 10 mm ) . It overlies the 3rd - 4th metatarsal head region. On compression, echoes show movement.  Increased perilesional vascularity is noted without vascularity  in the hypoechoic area. There is no joint effusion or tenosynovitis.      

Case Discussion

The ultrasound findings are compatible with abscess formation in the subcutaneous plane of the foot. ( After exploration : thick pus )
