Accessory abductor digiti minimi: on ultrasound

Presentation

Bilateral wrist dorsal nodular swelling - 2 - 3 yrs.

Patient Data

Age: about 30 yrs.
Gender: Female

USG showed bilateral scapho-lunate joint related gangalia ( images not uploaded ). There was an anatomical variant which is uploaded here.

Modality: Ultrasound

Guyon’s canal contains two structure ulnar artery and ulnar nerve.  There is an extra-structure in left tunnel showing echosignature of a muscle. It is seperating ulnar nerve and artery which are normally close to each other. Ulnar artery is patent.

Case Discussion

Demontration of a variant - accessory abductor digiti minimi muscle in Guyon's canal.

Patient is symptomatic for dorsal wrist ganglia.  There is no symptom of ulnar neuropathy in Guyon's canal due to presence of an accessory muscle.
