Accessory parotid glands

Presentation

27-year-old female patient with right cheek swelling, her clinician suspected subcutaneous lipoma. A marker was applied at the site of swelling.

Patient Data

Age: 27
Gender: Female
Modality: CT

Right accessory parotid gland is seen lateral to the right masseter muscle, it's seen anterior but distinctly separate from the main parotid gland,with the same CT density of both parotid glands.

Smaller left accessory left parotid gland is seen opposite the anterior lateral aspect of the left masseter muscle.

 

Case Discussion

This case may represent accessory parotid glands based on CT characteristics.
