Info

A well-circumscribed, lobulated, homogenously hyperdense lesion is noted in the anterior midline neck at the level of the thyroid cartilage, just inferior to the hyoid bone. The lesion has similar enhancement characteristics as the thyroid gland. In the lower axial slices, there are few hypodense nodules in the right thyroid lobe. The left thyroid lobe and isthmus are small in size.

Lytic lesion involving the vertebral body and posterior elements of the C6 vertebra with enhancing soft tissue, representing a metastatic lesion from the soft tissue sarcoma.

Case Discussion

Accessory thyroid gland is an uncommon developmental abnormality whereby an aberrant thyroid tissue is found anywhere other than the normal anatomic position. The term accessory is usually reserved for cases where a coexisting orthotopic thyroid gland is present.
