Acetabular and ilial fractures

Presentation

Involved in a road traffic collision.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

10 cm long displaced fracture of right ilium along long axis of bone with a fracture gap exceeding 17 mm. There is caudal extension to roof of acetabulum which is disintegrated into a minimum of three parts. Non-displaced small fracture of inferior lip of acetabulum. Mild cranial migration of right femur with no femur fracture. Comminuted fracture of left femur neck, post fixation. Rest of the pelvic bones are normal.  

Right L5 sacralization.  

Case Discussion

High velocity road traffic collision resulting in significant fracture and displacement of right ilium with extension to acetabular roof.

Important to document the hip joint extension so that no hip instability ensues following repair.
