The oesophagus is dilated with absent dilatation of the lower oesophageal sphincter. Very pronounced tertiary waves are also present.
Case Discussion
These are typical appearances of oesophageal achalasia, although one should keep in mind that a number of other entities can mimic this appearance, such as an obstructing oesophageal cancer.
