Achilles tendon complete tear

Presentation

The patient presented to ER with left ankle joint pain and swelling after heavy exercise

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Left-sided Achilles tendon shows altered signal intensity about 5.7 cm above its insertion with a complete tear of the visualized fibers which is more clearly visible on T2 weighted images.

 Marked surrounding edema is also appreciated.

Complementary ultrasound (not shown) also confirmed a left Achilles tendon tear.

Case Discussion

MRI findings especially on T2 weighted images and complementary ultrasound features are of a left-sided Achilles tendon complete tear.

The patient was operated on for repair and confirmed complete tear of the tendon surgically.
