Achilles tendon tear

Presentation

Jerk to the left distal leg and ankle on the posterior aspect. Complaining of the Achilles region pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is a complete ( full-thickness and full-width ) tear of Achilles tendon. The is located 60 mm proximal to the tendon insertion. There is a gap of 25 mm between the two edges of the torn tendon. The defect is filled with fluid with echoes favoring hemorrhage. The tendon proximal and distal to the tear shows a normal echo pattern. There is a tiny enthesophyte at insertion.

The asymptomatic tendon is intact with a normal echopattern.
