Achilles tendon tear

Presentation

One day before the presentation, the patient had Achilles tendon region trauma while sports. Clinical diagnosis of Achilles tear. Radiograph not available.

Patient Data

Age: 45 - 50 yrs
Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is a complete tear of Achilles tendon approximately 80 mm away from the insertion site. The maximum gap between the two tendon edges is 20 mm on dorsiflexion. The distal tendon shows thickening ( 10 mm ) with mild hypoechoic echopattern favoring mild tendinosis.

Case Discussion

One day before the presentation, an adult male had Achilles tendon region trauma while sports. Clinically, there was a palpable defect in the Achilles tendon. 

Ultrasound shows a complete tear of the Achilles tendon along with tendinosis in the tendon distal to the tear.
