Right ankle injury during sports. Tenderness, edema of the posterior ankle, and restricted range of motion. Simmonds-Thompson's test was positive.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

The Achilles tendon's normal fibrillar pattern was disrupted approximately 5 cm above its insertion on the calcaneus. The Achilles tendon thickness at the location of the tear was larger than the proximal and distal portions. A hypoechoic gap was noted within the area of the tear, indicating the presence of a fluid-filled defect.

Case Discussion

Achilles tendon injuries are extremely frequent, particularly in people who engage in sports or physical activities that place repetitive strain on the tendon. The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. Tears or ruptures can range in intensity from partial (as in this case) to complete ruptures.
