Presentation

Left sided sensory neural hearing loss.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
mri

An enhancing, somewhat T2 hyperintense vividly enhancing mass is present in the left cerebellopontine angle and extends into the acoustic meatus. Features are typical of an acoustic schwannoma.

Case Discussion

The patient went on to have a retrosigmoid craniotomy and resection of the mass. 

Histology

Sections show a benign spindle cell tumour displaying Antoni A and Antoni B areas, and focal Verocay body formation, typical of an acoustic schwannoma.
