Acoustic schwannoma - intracanalicular

Presentation

Hearing loss and tinnitus in the right ear.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Abnormal enhancing lesion measuring about 8 x 5 mm is seen in the right internal auditory canal involving the vestibulocochlear nerve suggestive of an intracanalicular vestibular schwannoma.

Note the presence of CSF lateral to the tumor.

Case Discussion

This patient was a known case of multiple sclerosis for 7 years and was referred to us with a sudden onset of tinnitus and hearing loss on the right side. Based on the history and MRI findings, VIII nerve schwannoma is the first diagnosis.
