Presentation

Lethargy and headaches. Incidental finding on CT head.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

  • 2 cm enhancing lesion in the pituitary fossa, expanding it
  • thickened skull
  • neanderthal like supraorbital ridge = frontal bossing
  • the thickened skull and frontal bossing suggest growth hormone secretion (i.e. acromegaly)

Pituitary gland is stretched around a lesion of lower signal. The pituitary gland enhances more avidly than the adenoma in this phase of imaging.

Case Discussion

The patient went on to have surgery which confirmed a growth hormone secreting macroadenoma accounting for their acromegaly
