Acromioclavicular joint injury: grade 2

Presentation

Fell off horse and landed on elbow. Pain and disability to shoulder.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Male
Modality: X-ray

AC joint space and CC distances are widened. The distal clavicle is displaced superiorly compared to the acromion. Overlying soft tissue swelling. No fracture. Glenohumeral joint is normal. 

CONCLUSION

Grade II acromioclavicular joint injury. 

Case Discussion

Grading of AC joint injuries can be a useful guide for treatment as higher grades will often require operative management while lower grades are typically managed non-operatively.
