Acromioclavicular joint injury: grade 3

Pain in shoulder post tackled at football.

Patient Data

Age: 30
Gender: Male
Modality: X-ray

Right AC joint is widened with increased coracoclavicular distance and superior displacement of the distal clavicle compared to acromion process. Overlying soft tissue swelling. 


Grade III AC joint injury. 

Modality: X-ray

AC joint stabilisation has been performed with fixation present at the origin/insertion of the CC ligament. Mild subluxation of the AC joint persists. 

Case Discussion

The defining aspect of a grade III AC joint injury is superior displacement of the clavicle compared to the acromion as well as an increased coracoclavicular distance.
