Presentation

Right shoulder trauma after a fall striking the shoulder against the ground.

Patient Data

Gender: Male

Coronal T2-weighted fat-saturated MR image shows type II acromioclavicular joint dislocation. Note disruption of all ligamentous fibers around acromioclavicular joint. Sagittal T2-fat-saturated MR image shows edematous fluid around the coracoclavicular ligaments (rupture of conoid and trapezoid ligaments).

Case Discussion

On MRI series we can see a type II acromioclavicular joint injury with the following findings:

  • coracoclavicular ligament complex (conoid and trapezoid ligament) has signs of rupture
  • blood and fluid are seen in the coracoclavicular interspace
