Acromioclavicular joint injury: grade II

Presentation

Man with a history of right shoulder trauma after a fall striking the shoulder against the ground.

Patient Data

Gender: Male
MRI

MRI Right shoulder

Coronal T2-weighted fat-saturated MR image shows type II acromioclavicular joint dislocation. Note disruption of all ligamentous fibers around acromioclavicular joint. Sagital T2-fat-saturated MR image shows oedematous fluid around the coracoclavicular ligaments (rupture of conoid and trapezoid ligaments).

 

Case Discussion

On MRI series we can see a type II acromioclavicular joint injury with the following finds:

  • the coracoclavicular ligament complex  (conoid and trapezoid ligament) has sign of rupture.
  • blood and fluid are seen in the coracoclavicular interspace.
