Acromioclavicular joint injury - grade III

Presentation

Fall from motorbike onto shoulder.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Multiple views of the left shoulder as well as a single non weight bearing AP comparison view of the right acromioclavicular joint have been obtained.

No fracture is identified. The left acromioclavicular joint is disrupted, with elevation of the clavicle with respect to the acromion. Coracoclavicular distance is also increased. Features are those of a left grade III acromioclavicular joint injury.      

Case Discussion

Grade III ACJ disruptions are in the mid-part of the spectrum of mild to severe ACJ injuries. Typically, it is managed non-operatively.
