Acromioclavicular joint injury - type II (MRI)

Presentation

Shoulder trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Acromioclavicular joint injury is seen as followed:

Clavicle elevated but not above the superior border of the acromion

Acromioclavicular ligament: ruptured

Joint capsule: ruptured

Coracoclavicular ligament: sprain

Deltoid muscle: partially torn

Trapezius muscle: partially torn

Acromion type II also is noted.

Case Discussion

The patient referred to us with a history of shoulder pain and immobility after direct shoulder trauma. Regarding the imaging findings, this is a type II acromioclavicular joint injury according to Rockwood classification.
