Acromion process fracture

Presentation

A known case of metastatic renal cell carcinoma, PET NAF shows uptake in the right shoulder.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

A lucency fracture line is seen at the base of the right acromion process with a minimal displacement suggestive of a fracture.
Mild soft tissue swelling shadow is noted in the right shoulder.
Few foci of calcifications are also noted likely calcification of tendon of the supraspinatus
muscle.
No suspicious lytic or sclerotic bony lesions were noted in the right humerus.

Impression;

Mildly displaced of the right acromion process.

Case Discussion

Fractures of the scapula occur infrequently, a fracture of the acromion being an even rarer entity, and should be investigated to rule out pathological fractures.
