Patient Data

Age: 3 years
Gender: Male

Both knee joints

x-ray

Bilateral enlargement of lower femoral and upper tibial metaphyses with frying, cupping and irregularity of metaphyseal surfaces. Widening of lower femoral growth plate.

Bilateral genu varum.

Case Discussion

Characteristic appearance of active Rickets. 

Rickets is osteomalacia that occurs prior to fusion of the growth plate. It is due to vitamin D deficiency.
