Right iliac fossa pain

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

A thick-walled blind-ending vermiform structure arising from the cecum inferior to the ileocecal valve, measuring up to 9 mm in diameter at its base and up to 24 mm at its tip in which surrounding fat edema and stranding suggestive of gangrenous tip pending to perforate, no abscess or collection seen, no free fluid. There is regular circumferential cecal wall thickening is likely secondary to the inflamed appendix, also few enlarged non-suspicious mesenteric lymph nodes are seen.

Case Discussion

Acute inflammation of the appendix more marked at its tip was found at surgery.
