Presentation
2-day history of worsening right iliac fossa pain with associated nausea. Rovsing sign positive on examination. Elevated C-reactive protein 148 mg/L (normal reference range < 5.0 mg/L).
Patient Data
The appendix is fluid-filled and there is an appendicolith within the proximal appendix. There is peri-appendiceal fat stranding and peri-appendiceal phlegmon. There are no signs of an obvious appendiceal abscess or free intraperit
Case Discussion
This is a case of acute appendicitis with appendicolith which is readily appreciated on CT imaging.
The histopathology was confirmed via laparoscopic appendectomy.
Histology
Appendix: Sections show acute suppurative appendicitis with serositis. There is no evidence of malignancy.
